Recently I was asked about a reasonable way to use Regex (regular expressions) to locate a user-entered phrase in a body of text.  At first I thought “Huh? What’s the problem?” but I quickly saw that the issue was conveniently getting from a phrase as a human might type it to a Regex pattern that would properly match that phrase.  Humans are so good at separating the wheat from the chaff that we tend to gloss over the details of what exactly makes something wheat.  In this blog post I’ll look at an easy way to accomplish what my friend was attempting.

I was recently re-installing Windows Server 2003, and ran into a baffling problem with Remote Desktop Connection. If you’ve run into this issue you probably Googled “Enable Remote Desktop” or something to that effect, and you found over a million hits – mostly telling you what you probably already knew, that you have to enable Remote Desktop by checking the “Enable Remote Desktop on this computer” checkbox on the “Remote” tab of the System Properties control panel.  Granted, if you didn’t know about that checkbox, this was useful information, but…
